The President has said that the state policy is to treat everyone equally. He made this comment presenting permanent postal service appointments to the Estate sector.

The handing over 386 permanent postal services appointments to the Estate Sector took place at the BMICH this morning under the patronage of President Rajapaksa.

The President handed over these permanent postal service appointments to the estate sector honouring a pledge made in the Mahinda Chinthana that a programme for the distribution of mails daily at the doorsteps will be implemented overcoming the mail distribution which prevailed in the Estate Sector for over a century. The President gave away some over letters of appointment symbolizing its presentation.

Addressing the gathering after the handing over of the letters of appointment, the President asserted that the Government did not leave room for any change in the Estate sector, the village, the town, or the North or South.

The President described the present period as the Postal era. The present postal service is more advanced and developed and not as it was in the past. On one hand it has become a business model as a private establishment. As such the income earned by the Sri Lanka Post has increased by 25 percent. There will be no differences whether it was the Estate Sector, the North, the South, the West or the East or else whether it was the village or the town. Everyone should have access to education, health, transport, water and electricity. This the President emphasized it is the state policy. He said he is aware that there are issues and shortcomings in the Estate Sector. It is not very far for the abolition of the Line Room era. The estate community is not neglected in the granting of appointments. There are children who enter universities and receive education in English from the estate community. This the President added is the government’s victory.

Ministers Jeevan Kumaratunge, Arumugam Thondaman and C.B. Ratnayake, Deputy Minister Muttusivalingam, Secretary to the Ministry of Postal Services Hemasiri Fernando and Post Master General Rohana Abhayaratne were among those present on the occasion.
