Senior Minister Sarath Amunugama has said that human rights were flagrantly violated by the terrorists throughout 30 years, No human rights violations had taken place in the country after the end of the conflict.
The Minister was addressing an international conference held in India.
The Minister said that there were no human rights violations in 2009 – towards the end of war between the Tamil rebels and Sri Lankan Government. There were no human rights violations as such, because people are targeting Sri Lanka, especially the Tamil diaspora, because they cannot face the fact that they have lost the war. We are answering all their questions, we have set up our own commission, truth and learning commission. So we will enforce the recommendations of our commission.
Minister Dr. Amunugama claimed that if you see the reality of the situation, the army has behaved extremely well. Most of the civilians crossed over to the army side and they have been looked after. So this is power play between the diaspora and government whom they don’t like for having defeated terrorism. He added that whatever charges have been levelled, they will answer them.
