147 countries has already confirmed participation in the 2014 World Conference on Youth. Only 100 countries had participated in the last Conference that was held in Mexico. The Government has assured that an opportunity would be given to groups joining in the Conference with a strong belief in Sri Lanka. The 2014 World Conference on Youth will be held in Sri Lanka from the 06 to the 10 of next month. All arrangements for the hosting of the conference has already been finalized. President of the United Nations General Assembly John William Ashe and Special representative of UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon Ahmed Al Hendavi will attend the conference. Addressing a news Conference in Colombo today, Deputy Minister Mohanlal Grero said that 25 Ministers on Youth Affairs, 32 high ranking officials as well as 25 UN Regional Directors and Deputy Directors representing foreign countries have confirmed their participation in the Conference in Sri Lanka. All youth representatives will be in Sri Lanka by the 05th of next month. A special Cultural Pageant is due to be staged on 05th evening. Plans are afoot to hold the inauguration of the 2014 World Conference on Youth on the 06th of next month at the Magampura Ruhuna International Convention Centre under the patronage of President Rajapaksa. World youth will gather in Colombo on the 07th and 08th and deliberate on issues related to the youth. The journey of the youth in the world for the next few years will be decided on the Colombo Declaration to be launched at the end of the Conference.
Chairman of the National Youth Services Council Lalith Piyum Perera will be serving as the official spokesman of the World Conference on Youth.
