A request has been made to establish a Sri Lanka Trade Office in Balochistan.
The request was made by Speaker of Balochistan Jan Muhammad Khan Jamali when he called on President Rajapaksa today. The meeting took place at Temple Trees. Jamali requested to establish this Office in the Gawardar Port in Balochistan. It is a leading Harbour which daily ships 16 million barrels of crude oil to other countries. This Port also maintains many relations with other countries with respect to the transport of goods.
Expressing his views the President said many benefits can be accrued as the Hambantota Harbour is located just beyond 10 nautical miles from the world’s busiest sea route. It will also entice the reactivation of the historic Silk Route. Minister Prof G.L. Peiris, President’s Secretary Lalith Weeratunge and Foreign Secretary Kshenuka Senevirtne were present at the meeting
