President Mahinda Rajapaksa addressing the special Thai delegation said that the bond between the two countries which practice Theravada Buddhism is exceptional. The President said that the friendship between the two countries and the support given by Thailand as a Buddhist country was highly appreciated. The President mentioned this when he met the Thai delegation yesterday at the Temple Trees. The eight member delegation who are on a six day pilgrimage, led by Venerable Longpaha Somikaya Chithamoro of Udonkani Thailand, chanted pirith and invoked blessings on the President. Three Boo Trees, three Buddha Statues and relics from the Kotmale Mahaveli Maha Seya are scheduled to be taken to Thailand. A Boo sapling was presented to the President by Venerable Chithamaro Thera. The coordinator of the group Peni Kumbari said that it was a privilege to be part of the delegation. President’s Religious Affair’s Coordinating Secretary Venarable Watinapaha Somananda Thera, Global Tsunami Relief Service Chairman and Co-director Venerable Kirama Dhammananda Thera and a group were present on the occasion.
