The Government has allocated 700 million rupees more to develop activities related to women and children. The Government has decided to allocate 700 million rupees to programmes aimed at preventing child abuse and violence against women. This amount has been given apart from the 1742 million rupees allocated by the previous budget to the Ministry of Child Development and Women’s Affairs. This was revealed during a discussion between Minister Tissa Karaliyadda, Finance Ministry Secretary Dr. P.B. Jayasundara and a group of officials. These funds will be utilized for projects such as building temporary shelters for vulnerable children, to set up 50 children and women development units, to implement livelihood programmes for widowed families and to set up dairy farms.
