The World Conference on Youth which will introduce the youth as a leader of not tomorrow’s world but that of today, is scheduled to open in Sri Lanka on the 06th of next month. Issues with respect to the youth are slated to be addressed according to the 2015 Post Development Agenda that will be crafted as this Conference.
The United Nations in the year 2000 introduced eight Millennium Development Goals to the world. Accordingly, the United Nations was active when working with the youth from the year 2000 to 2014. Thereafter the problem arose as to how the agenda that should be formulated after 2014 should be implemented.
Taking cognizance of this factor, action was initiated to hold the 2014 World Conference on Youth in Sri Lanka following a pledge given by Minister Dulles Alahapperuma at the Conference staged in Mexico in the year 2010. This is also the first time that the World conference on Youth is to be held in an Asian country.
