Girl hoodwinked with promise of appearing as Avurudu Kumari ....collectively raped
Police are conducting investigations to track suspects of a case of a rape committed collectively on a girl of 14 years who had come to see the Bak Maha Ulela in Bataduwa, Galle. The incident has taken place in Akmeemana.
The girl who is from Pilana, Moragolla having come to see a New Year festival held in Bataduwa area had become friendly with some boys.
What these youth had said was that since she was so charming, for her to take part in the Avurudu Kumari contest. They had then invited her to come with them to go and buy clothes for this purpose and had so duped the young girl and taken her in a three-wheeler to a guest-house.
"Here .... you are very pretty; you can become the Avurudu Kumari. We'll see that you are admitted as a contestant. Let's go to a dress-shop in Galle to buy some clothing," the youth had told and so taken her to a guest-house where they had collectively raped her after which they have dropped her by the roadside.
A crowd of people in the area had informed the police after which she was escorted by the police in a police vehicle. Subsequent to recording her statement, she had been hospitalized for treatment.
Akmeemana police are conducting investigations to arrest the suspects.
However, what relatives of the girl say is that the police are not conducting a proper inquiry on this case.
