The barbaric insurgents caused carnage and destruction to public property spreading a fear psychosis throughout the motherland and destabilizng the country.
That brutal and dreadful era was drawn to a close with the heroic soldiers wiping out the dark shadows of terrorism.
The tiger terrorists brutally murdering four innocent civilians in the Kinniya area on 05th May 1986 marked the first killing on this day during the dark period. On 05th May in the year 1990 the ruthless tiger terrorists mooted an assault in the Wanni area killing six war heroes. Omanthai was the next target of the terrorists. In a heinous attack on 05th May 1991, the terrorists killed two war heroes.
In another attack on 05th May 1992 in Kokveliya in Vavuniya, the terrorists targeted an attack on a group of war heroes. As a result four war heroes made supreme sacrifices on behalf of the country. The next attack of the terrorists on 05th May was in the year 1994. Three war heroes sacrificed their lives on behalf of the motherland in the attack mooted in the Ampara 13 Kolaniya area. Again in the year 1998 on a day like today, the terrorists lurking in the Sinna Sippikulam area mooted an assault on the war heroes killing two of them.
A terrorist attack was unleashed in Eluthumaduwal defence belt on 05th May 2001. Seven brave soldiers offered their lives on behalf of the unity of the motherland. The country lost nine war heroes in several terrorist assaults mooted in the Wellamulliwaikkal and Mullaitivu areas on 05th May in the year 2009.
Terrorism which was a scourge for the country was annihilated by the brave soldiers on 18th May 2009. By then the ruthless terrorists had taken a way a total of 77 lives which included seven civilians. The other 70 were war heroes who made supreme sacrifices for the motherland.
The heroic soldiers enthroned real peace in the country due to the unwavering leadership of the Commander in Chief, President Rajapaksa and the prudent guidance of Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa. Many members of the Security Forces sacrificed their lives as well as eyes, heads, hands and limbs in their brave attempts to enthrone freedom in the motherland. They are really eternal heroes.
The Leader of the country who provided a fitting lesson to the world by annihilating terrorism from the country, is giving another lesson to the world by looking after the war heroes who have been rendered disabled in their operation to end terrorism. Certain local as well extraneous forces do not see the real heroism of these war heroes. But the entire nation eternally loves and takes care of them. It is the bravery and courage of the war heroes who made supreme sacrifices that are being recounted in these episodes.

That is the photographs of the war heroes who sacrificed their lives on behalf of the country and which are most valuable for you and for us and which are well safeguarded and protected by you.
