The chanting of Jaya Piritha with the participation of 4000 maha Sagha, to invoke blessings and to wish prosperity for the country, has been concluded.The Pirith chanting was held to invoke blessings on the soldiers who defeated terrorism, people and the government, at the BMICH in Colombo. It took place for the 7th time this year, on the instructions of President Mahinda Rajapaksa and on the directions of Defence and Urban Development Ministry Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa. A large number of people including President Mahinda Rajapaksa, First lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa and parliamentarians were present to listen to the pirith chanting.Meanwhile, the alms giving in connection with the Jaya piritha, took place this morning. Offering of alms to the maha sangha was held under the patronage of the president. A distinguished gathering including President’s secretary Lalith Weeratunge, Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, Ministry Secretary for Law and Order Nanda Mallawarachchi, President’s Chief of Staff Gamini Senarath took part in this meritorious act.
Meanwhile the President has unveiled the golden fence and the wall around the Ashtapala Bodhi in Punchi Boralla.

The Bo tree is considered to have a history of more than one hundred years. The precincts of the Bo tree was renovated on the instructions of parliamentarian Thilanga Sumathipala. The President offered Atapirikara to the Maha Nayaka of the Matara chapter of the Amarapura Siri Sad-damma Yuk-thika Maha Nikaya, Ven. Naakulu-gamuwe Pemathilake thero. A distinguished gathering including Chief Sangha Nayaka of Colombo Ven. Maharagama Nanda thero, Senior Minister A. H. M. Fawzie, Minister Patalie Champika Ranawaka, Deputy Minister M. K. A. D. S. Gunawardena, All Ceylon Buddhist Congress chairman Jagath Sumathypala were present on the occasion.
