The crimes committed by the cruel terrorists during the terror period are being recounted with the wish that the nation would not experience such a disastrous era again. Today we reminisce the atrocities committed by the LTTE terrorists on the 16th of May. LTTE terrorists who stormed into the Kosgolla village on 16th May 1992, massacred five innocent civilians. In the year 1995 on a day like today, the country lost the valuable services of three war heroes in a terrorist assault unleashed targeting Elephant Pass. The brutal tiger terrorists mooted a heinous attack on soldiers who were engaged in the Jayasikuru Operation on 16th May 1997. 32 heroic soldiers made supreme sacrifices on behalf of the motherland in this attack. 27 war heroes were killed in a skirmish which surfaced in another location in Vavuniya on the same day. The LTTE terrorists launched an attack in the Colombo Fort area on 16th May 2008. As a result 11 war heroes were killed. Accordingly eight civilians were killed by the terrorists on 16th May throughout the dark era. During this period the terrorists also killed 91 members of the Security Forces. The total lives taken away by the terrorists within this period is recorded as 99. The heroic soldiers who advanced in the humanitarian operations enthroned genuine peace in the motherland on 18th May 2009 due to the unwavering and bold leadership of President Rajapaksa, the Commander in Chief and the appropriate guidance of Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa. They thus provided to the entire world the lesson of annihilating terrorism and granting peace to the country. The people’s leader and the Defence Secretary who imparted a lesson to the world ending terrorism, are also providing another fitting lesson to the world. It is by engaging in an act that which no other country is following. They are doing so by looking after throughout their lives the war heroes who sacrificed their hands, limbs, eyes and other organs, on behalf of the freedom of the country by ending the war, without totally neglecting them. Isn’t this massive operation launched to save the lives of these disabled war heroes a fitting lesson to the world? The services of these war heroes are being reminisced over and over again as no one can forget them.
