The Colombo Mayor has said that the support given by the Government to upgrade the living standard of the urban dwellers is outstanding.
Colombo Mayor A.J.M. Muzammil said that the support and cooperation given by the Government to the Colombo Municipal Council had not been curtailed despite the Council being ruled by the United National Party. He clarified if development as mixed with politics, it was the poor urban dwellers who will be encountering difficulties.
The Colombo Mayor was speaking at the launch of construction work on the new Pumping Plant at Mattakkuliya in Colombo. 19 thousand families in the area will benefit by the Project for which an investment of 67 million rupees is to be made. The Government has already made an allocation for work on the second stage of the Project. The Project is being launched on a proposal mooted by Urban Councillor Roy Bogahawatte. Its aim is to be improve the infrastructure of the City. The Project will systematize the removal sewerage affiliated to estates within the City. The project will address the many related issues encountered by the people. Grants are being channeled from the Asian Development Loan Scheme.
