The Maritime and Naval Museum at the ancient Dutch Naval Commissioners Official residence in Trincomalee has been opened under the patronage of the Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa.
The Museum has many exhibition booths containing information of the history of the Naval affairs and on sea artefacts. The expenditure incurred by Netherlands and the Sri Lankan Government for the conservation of this building is 77 million rupees.
The conservation work was handled by the Department of Archaeology and the Museums Department under the supervision of the Ministry of National Heritages. The Sri Lanka Navy also made a vital contribution to this task.
Minister Jagath Balasuriya, Eastern Governor Mohan Wijewickrema and the Eastern Chief Minister Najeeb A. Majeed were among those present on the occasion.
