New Ambassadors have pledged continued support to Sri Lanka. The President appealed to the new diplomats that they are free to walk in any part of the country and to intimate to their countries the real situation prevailing in Sri Lanka.
Six new Ambassadors have been appointed to Sri Lanka. They presented their credentials to President Rajapaksa today. They were conducted to the Presidential Secretariat in horse carriages for the handing over of credentials.
These foreign diplomats who were accorded the highest honour handed over their credentials to the President.
Ambassador of Congo Felix Ngoma was the first to hand over his credentials to the President. He was followed by the newly appointed Am bassador of Argentina Raul Ignacio Guastavino.
The newly appointed Ambassador to the Republic of Korea Chang Won-sam was the next to hand over the credentials to the President.
Vicente Vivencio T. Bandillo is the new Ambassador of Philippines to Sri Lanka, he too presented his credentials to the President. The next to hand over the credentials was the newly appointed Ambassador of Palestine, Zuhair Hamdallah Zaid.
Guillermo Rubio Funes has been appointed as theAmbassador of El Salvador. He presented his credentials to the President.
The Ambassadors brought messages of good wishes from their respective heads of state to President Rajapaksa as well as the Sri Lankan people. They pledged to work towards further strengthening bilateral ties.
Ambassador of Congo Ngoma assured the President that his country will continue to support the Government of Sri Lanka in the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva.
Argentina’s Ambassador Guastavino said his objective during his tenure is to develop new areas of cooperation, especially in trade.
Won-sam from Korea told the President he had three specific goals towards enhancing bilateral relations between the two nations. They were to further consolidate the foundations of bilateral relations, to boost trade and investment and to expand relations into new areas.
President Rajapaksa briefed the new ambassadors of post-war developments in Sri Lanka and requested them to travel in Sri Lanka, speak to people from various sectors, learn the true ground reality and report the truth about Sri Lanka back to their countries.
Deputy Minister Neomal Perera, President’s Secretary Lalith Weeratunge and Foreign Secretary Kshenuka Seneviratne were among those present on the occasion.
