The President extends greetings to children who have done Sri Lanka proud through their innovations. The United States has decided to name a star after W.A. Namal Udara of the Tambuttegama Central College.

who achieved victories at the International Science and Engineers Exhibition held in Los Angeles in the United States, met President Rajapaksa at the Presidential Secretariat. The President extended his very warm greetings to these children who had projected a positive image of the motherland to the world. He also extended his blessings to these children to achieve success in their future activities. There were 1783 competitors from 72 countries for the International Science and Engineering Competition hosted in Los Angeles. Student Namal Udara secured the place for producing a machine to process land for paddy cultivation. Countries such as China, Japan and Korea have evaluated how the innovations of these students are useful to industries, while student Namal Udara has secured the first place in this process. The United States has even decided to name a star after Namal Udara applauding his skills.
Nipun Kanishka, a Grade 11 student of De Mazenod College Kandana had produced a software which could be used by the visually impaired to play games. His innovation secured the fourth place in the Computer field competition.
Rakitha Dilshan of Nalanda College Colombo, who is pursuing studies in the Advance Level in the Bio Science Division had presented an innovation on the use of Nanotechnology for the prevention of cancer. Rakitha Dilshan won the second place in the International Mathematics and Science Olympiad competition held in Jakarta, Indonesia. He succeeded in winning the second place in the competition. Competitors from more than 40 countries participated in this competition.
President Rajapaksa presented cash awards to these children who had succeeded in elevating Sri Lanka’s image within the international sphere. Among those present on the occasion were Ministers Bandula Gunawardena, Tissa Karaliyadda, S.M. Chandrasena and Patalie Champika Ranawaka, North Central Chief Minister S.M. Ranjith, Secretary to the Ministry of Eduation Anura Dissanayake and Presidential Chief of Staff Gamini Senarath.
