The President has advised water supply officials to launch an organized programme for the establishment of an advanced water supply network within the country.

President Rajapaksa issued these instructions during a discussion held at Temple Trees this morning. The meeting was held with the officials of the Ministry of Water Supply and Drainage and the National Water Supply and Drainage Board. The meeting was summoned to deliberate on the progress of the Water Supply Projects which are now under implementation and to inquire into the projects that are being planned for the future.

The President requested the officials to draw their special attention to supplying pure drinking water to the people in areas where disease affecting kidneys are rife. The President took cognizance of the issues that have so far surfaced in areas where water supply schemes are under construction.

As it was possible to endow the nation with a developed road network through the implementation of streamlined and systematic programmes the President emphasized the need to follow suit in the granting of an advanced water supply network to the people. Work on a number of water supply schemes is planned for this year.

The President gave instructions at this meeting to launch these projects so that the people would reap maximum benefits from these Schemes.

Ministers Dinesh Gunawrdena and Basil Rajapaksa, Deputy Minister Nirupama Rajapaksa and many senior officials of the Ministry were among those present on the occasion.
