Two commuters who assaulted a locomotive driver accusing him of not operating the train on time have been apprehended. The Office of the Police Media Spokesman said that they were taken into custody at the Maradana Railway Station. A group of commuters had assaulted the driver of a train at the Alawwa Railway Station and taken him hostage for preventing commuters boarding the train at the Polgahawala Station as there was a delay in its arrival at the Maaho Station this morning. As a result pandemonium reigned for several hours at the Alawwa Station. This resulted in about nine trains being stranded at the Station for several hours. The situation was brought under control with the arrival of the Railways Superintendent. He settled the dispute by discussing with the group. Thereafter the trains resumed operations. The locomotive driver gave his assurance that such a situation would not recur. The Police said that those who assaulted the driver were taken into custody following a complaint lodged with the Police by the driver concerned.
