President Rajapaksa has emphasized that the humanitarian operation was not launched against
the Tamil community. It was purely mooted against terrorism.
President of the Asian Development Bank Takehiko Nakao who is on a visit to Sri Lanka met the President at the President’s House this morning. The President clarified to him the progress achieved in development after the humanitarian operations. He also gave a detailed description on the launch of the resettlement and rehabilitation programmes expeditiously.
The President called on the ADB to visit the North and to see for himself the development that is taking place in the North. Sri Lanka joined the ADB as a founding member in 1966.
The ADB website states that Sri Lanka’s social indicators are among the best in South Asia. Several Parliamentarians and some senior Government officials were present at this meeting.
