The dark memories of terrorism will not be erased from the minds of the people


due to its barbarity and ruthlessness. The heroic soldiers eradicated terrorism and eliminated the dark era which lasted for nearly three decades. On 22nd June 1987, a claymore mine exploded at Valvettithurai in Jaffna killing four soldiers. LTTE terrorists ambushed a platoon of soldiers on 22nd June 1990 in Vavuniya and killed four of them. On 22nd June 1996, five heroic soldiers sacrificed their lives when LTTE terrorists attacked them in Batticaloe. The country lost 10 heroic soldiers when LTTE terroriss launched a mortar attack at Maankulum on 22nd June 1998. LTTE terrorists took lives of three soldiers at Maankulum on 22nd June 1999 and killed three more soldiers at Sirimapura on 22nd June 2000. LTTE terrorists launched several attacks from Kaludaweli and Periyamadu areas on 22nd June 2008. Six soldiers lost their lives due to these attacks. The ruthless terrorism was eradicated from the motherland on 18th May 2009. By that day LTTE terrorists had taken the lives of 45 people including 43 heroic soldiers and two innocent civilians. The brave leadership of Commander in Chief President Mahinda Rajapaksa was able to eradicate the brutal terrorism on 18th May 2009 at the Nandikadal lagoon in Wellimulliwaikkal. The heroic soldiers who marched forward on the accurate directions of Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, achieved true freedom for the country and taught the lesson of eliminating terrorism to the world. The peoples’ leader has been able to teach a new lesson to the world after the victory which surprised the whole world. President Mahinda Rajapaksa has been able to teach a new lesson to the world by stopping the tradition of sending home the soldiers after a war. The present Government led by the peoples’ President has taken steps to look after the disabled soldiers under the patronage of Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa. The peoples’ leader has been able to teach a new lesson to the world by looking after the disabled soldiers who sacrificed their limbs on behalf of us. As the peoples’ channel, ITN requests over and over again never to forget the heroic soldiers who sacrificed their lives on behalf of us.
