Dengue crackdown throughout the country

Operations to check for dengue mosquito breeding grounds are being continuously carried out. Measures are in place to take stern legal action against those who are maintaining such mosquito breeding grounds.


A danger of a rise in the dengue epidemic prevailed with extreme weather conditions experienced in the last few days. As a result initiatives were taken to resume the dengue crackdown programmes that were launched throughout the island, while various measures were adopted to implement special programmes at the Provincial level.


Accordingly the National Dengue Control Programme said that it was possible to successfully undertaken initiatives in the Western Province during the last three days. Eventhough there were plans to examine over 134 thousand sites within the Western Province including houses and schools, it was possible to examine a little over 158 thousand locations. This helped to detect 2760 mosquito breeding grounds. While warnings were issued to certain groups, action was taken to initiate legal action against others.
