The President has declared open the Swimming Pool of the Mahanama Central College in Moneragala.
On arrival at the Mahanama Central College, President Rajapaksa was accorded a rousing welcome by the school children. He had a very cordial discussion with the students and made inquiries into the facilities they needs. It was thereafter that the President joined in the opening of the newly built swimming pool of the Mahanama Central College.
This is the first swimming pool to be constructed in a school in the Uva Province with modern facilities with the intention of improving the sports skills of children of 864 schools in Uva Wellassa, based on the Mahinda Chinthana National Policy.
The President also joined in viewing a swimming pageant presented by the students of the Mahanama Central College. The President also signed the visitor’s book marking his visit to the School. Ministers Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Jagath Pushpakumara and Vijith Vijayamuni Soysa and Uva Chief Minister Shashindra Rajapaksa were among those present.
On hearing about the President’s arrival, a large crowd gathered on either side of the road to have glimpse of the President. The President seized the opportunity of exchanging pleasantries with them.
