Mihintala Aloka Pooja inaugurated

The Mihintala Aloka Pooja was inaugurated under the patronage of the President. The President also inaugurated the Book Dansala marking Poson Full Moon Poya Day.

The Mihintala Aloka Pooja which lit up the historic Mihintala Sacred Site was inaugurated by President Rajapaksa last evening. It is organized jointly under the sponsorship of Lake House and the Electricity Board for the 52nd occasion. The Pinkama was held under the guidance of Chief Incumbent of the Mihintala Raja Maha Vihare the Ven. Walawahengunuwewe Dhammarathana Thera.

The President inaugurated the Aloka Pooja amidst the traditional sounds of Buddhist veneration “Saadu Saadu.”

Among those who joined in the occasion were Ministers Pavithra Wanniarachchi, S.M. Chandrasena and Duminda Dissanayake, North Central Governor Karunaratne Divulgane, chief Minister S.M. Ranjith, many other people’s representatives, Chairman of the Electricity Board W.B. Ganegala and Lake House Chairman and Senior Journalist Bandula Pathkumara.

Delivering an Anusasana, the Ven. Walawahengunuwewe Dhammarathana Thera said that the entire nation is now living in freedom as the President succeeded in ending terrorism. The prelate said that the people now have the freedom to travel from Point Pedro up to Dondra Point. This was mainly due to the victory and sacrifices made by the President. This sacrifice was purely made for the benefit of the citizens. While not only development places of Buddhist worship such as Atamasthana and Solosmasthana, it is a well-known fact that he has given priority to Islam, Catholic and Hindu places of worship. The prelate said that it was mainly due to the Executive Presidency that he succeeded in not only ending the war but also developing these places.

The Ven. Dhammarathana Thera said that devotees who are undertaking pilgrimages can now witness the transformation that has taken place in Mihintale. It remained in an irregular manner, and was embraced with various forces. This has now been today eliminated through the President’s mediation and transformed into a beautiful place of worship.

In the meantime, the President also declared open the Book Dansala organized by the Education Ministry marking Poson Full Moon Poya Day. The President presented books to the children who were present on the occasion.
