North to get 91 Mahindodaya Labs and 16 Technological Units

The Northern Province will get 91 Mahindodaya Laboratories and 16 Technological


Units. 40 billion rupees will also be set aside for educational activities.

The Government’s aspiration is to provide all educational facilities enjoyed in other parts of the country to the children of the North. Many programmes have been launched in this respect under the guidance of President Rajapaksa.

The construction of 91 Mahindodaya Laboratories commenced with the launch of these development programmes via Uthuru Wasanthaya. Ninety nine percent of this work has already been completed. The construction of 16 Technological Units began on Monday. The allocation made by the Government for this work is 14.56 billion rupees.

With the resettlement of the people displaced as a result of terrorist activities and who took refuge in the Settikulam village in Vavuniya, all schools in these areas were reopened. Northern Governor G.A. Chandrasiri said that educational activities have been streamlined and the total amount expended on this work by the Government was 40 billion rupees.

A noteworthy improvement was recorded in the standard of education in the Northern Province during the past two years. This has been consolidated by the examination results. The Northern Education Ministry said that future activities are being planned to further upgrade the standard of education.
