The people have organized various Pinkamas remembering the Kebetigollewa carnage which deeply moved the Commander in Chief to take a firm decision that terrorists should be responded toin a language they understand and must be wiped out from the motherland.
Eight years have passed since the gruesome terrorist assault on Kebetigollewa which killed 70 innocent civilians including toddlers, expectant mothers and Buddhist monks while a similar number sustained grave injuries. This carnage is considered as another cowardly attack of Prabhakaran’s murderous goons.
He must have victoriously commemorated this achievement as another successful initiative of his Eelam project. But the Kebetigollewa attack was recorded as the beginning of the end for Prabhakaran, with the firm determination by President Rajapaksa to make a beeline to stem the LTTE slaughters and to prevent a recurrence of such terrorist onslaughts in the future.
It was on 15th June at 7.30 in the morning that the brutal tiger terrorists unleashed a claymore mine attack at Kongollewa on a bus travelling from Yakawewa to Kebetigollewa. Five expectant mothers died in this brutal assault along their unborn children. President Rajapaksa visited Kebetigollewa to pay his last respects to the dead and also visited the injured who were hospitalized.
Priyantha Dasanayake who raised with his hands the body of his son queried from the President whether this was the Mahinda Chinthana? The President being a father of three himself felt this statement strongly. As such he took a firm decision that no room should be left for the murderous tiger terrorists to carry out such murders. This determination led to the end of Prabhakaran’s tyranny.
In the meantime, the villagers of Yakawewa in Kebetigollewa organized a Dansala in the Anuradhapura Sacred City to invoke merits on those who gave up their lives in this horror attack marking the 8th death anniversary. Priyantha Dassanayake who lost his son, wife and relatives in this terrorist attack was seen engaged in the organizational work of the Dansala.
