The Customs have seized a haul of cigarettes worth around 30 million rupees. The stock has been directed to various fake addresses from Dubai under the guise of parcel post. The detection was made following a special raid carried out jointly by the Colombo Central Postal Exchange and the Postal Department. Officials of the Postal Department who were suspicious about these parcels sent on the 26th of this month, carried out the raid with the support of the Customs. The Customs said that groups linked to the racket had use the parcel post system to dispatch the cigarettes with the intention of deceiving the authorities. Inquiries are in progress on the instructions of Customs Director General Jagath P. Wijeweera.
