The first meeting of the Inter-Ministerial Task Force in preparation
of the State Visit by His Holiness Pope Francis to Sri Lanka was held at the External Affairs Ministry yesterday.
Pope Francis is scheduled to begin his visit to Sri Lanka on the 13th of January next year. He will be in the island until the 15th. All arrangements regarding the State Visit of His Holiness the Pope were discussed comprehensively at this meeting.
It was agreed that a further discussion would take place with the advance team from the Vatican due to visit Sri Lanka next week. The first meeting of the Inter-Ministerial Task Force was held under the patronage of Archbishop of Colombo His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith and Minister of External Affairs Prof. G.L. Peiris.
Secretary to the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, Secretary to the Ministry of Law and Order Major General Nanda Mallawarachchi and Secretary to the Ministry of Mass Media and Information Charitha Herath were present at this discussion. Also Ministry Secretaries including Secretary to the Ministry of Economic Development Dr. Nihal Jayatilake and Secretary to the Ministry of Transport Dhammika Perera and a group including Senior State officials were present at this meeting.
