The University Grants Commission has accused certain lecturers of supporting some students in their attempts to paralyze activities in Universities. It has called on the parents to maintain a close tab on their children. These views were expressed at the news conference held at the Higher Education Ministry on the situations prevailing within the higher education field and at the Gampaha Wickremarachchi Ayurvedha Institute. The news briefing was presided over by Chairman of the University Grants Commission Kshanika Hirimburegama. The University Grants Chairman pointed out that there were sufficient grants for University education and research activities and that the Commission was prepared to provide such grants to those who need them. She claimed that a handful of students was attempting to create chaos within the University network and that they were being supported by some lecturers. Lecturers are keeping away from the Gampaha Wickremarachchi Ayurvedha Institute based on a ragging incident. Senior Advisor on Student Affairs of the Higher Education Ministry Keerthi Mawella said that the students of the Institute should seek an apology from the lecturers.
