It has been emphasized that Nuwara Eliya cultivators are not using excessive agricultural chemicals. The Agricultural Ministry said that their farming does not hinder the farmers or the consumers. Accusations had been made that farmers of Nuwara Eliya are using excessive agricultural chemicals for their cultivations. Following this problematic situation, the Department of Agriculture carried out a survey on agricultural crops within the Nuwara Eliya District and it was confirmed that these farmers were not using chemicals in excessive forms. The Department of Agriculture said that although around five percent of the cultivators were using chemicals in an irregular manner, a majority are aware of the proper application of chemicals. Several programmes have been launched at the Provincial, District and office levels to advise the cultivators on the use of chemicals. The Agricultural Ministry said that all cultivations endemic to the Nuwara Eliya District were being standardized once a month in collaboration of private establishments and that consumers should not entertain any fear about the crops.
