The main suspect of an incident where a 15 year old schoolgirl had been gang-raped was

The suspect and 3 others had been motivated to commit this gang-rape last 16th in Ambalangoda - Urawaththa area on the necessity of another woman. This woman is supposed to be involved in the profession of prostitution and the said girl had struck up an affair with a brother of this woman. The woman concerned had been opposing this attachment. However, the girl had continued the affair.

On the day of the incident, this woman who went to the girl's house had told that her brother had taken poison and had frightened and upset her and taken her out from the house which procedure in fact was done according to a set plan. Later on, on the pretense of showing the brother, she had taken the girl in a bus and after coming to Ambalangoda town had got into a three-wheeler with her and had thus taken her to a house in Ambalangoda - Urawaththa area. She had then told her that she was going out to bring some food to eat and instead had given the key of the house to the 4 suspects who were involved in this gang-rape. It was understood that these 4 young men were customers of this woman who was engaged in prostitution. The 4 youth who entered the house had then escorted the girl to a room in the house and having scared her had gang-raped her. There had been no one on that occasion to come to her aid.

Subsequently she had been kept in the house for 2 days and the said youth had taken steps to gang-rape her during that period too it was learned. This 15 year old girl living in Meetiyagoda - Kahatapitiya area after being subjected to gang-rape in this manner has been left helpless and the youth had fled after that.

The woman referred to earlier who had left her lonely in the house had not sighted the place thereafter and the girl with the support of neighbours had informed the police and later got herself admitted to hospital. During investigations by the police it was found that the woman had disappeared from her house. It was also revealed that the four youth who were involved in this gang-rape were all residents of Meetiyagoda area.

During the course of investigations by the police looking out for the woman and the others, one of the gang-rapists had come to the airport with the purpose of boarding a flight to Dubai on an Air Arabia flight and was thus apprehended. It was exposed at primary investigations that he had been employed in Dubai and had come over to Sri Lanka for a three-month holiday.

After being handed over to Meetiyagoda Police, the suspect is expected to be produced before Balapitiya Courts. 2 others suspects related to the case were cordoned by the police this afternoon. By now the police have launched operations in search of that woman and the other youth.
