CHAIRMAN OF NATIONAL RUPAVAHINI, SOMARATHNA DISSANAYAKA ... RESIGNS
Mr. Somarathna Dissanayaka, Chairman of National Television who was appointed newly
under this government, tendered his resignation today. No explanation as a reason has been given regarding this decision so far but he had mentioned that he would be revealing in detail why this decision was taken, at a press conference scheduled to be held this afternoon. Somarathna Dissanayaka who was an ardent Mahinda supporter in a political way during Mahinda Rajapaksa's time was involved in various problems and then changed the Party by holding a press conference appearing for a Maithri regime. Subsequently though it was reported that he was to get the position of the chairman of Rupavahini even before two or three days elapsed after the new government came into force, a disagreement over this decision by certain elements began to surface. For this very reason he even arranged a confrontation inviting those who were criticising him to voice their opinions and enter into an open debate; however nobody turned up. Subsequently he had made several changes in National Rupavahini during the past period and carried on with his activities.
Information regarding his decision to resign would be made known this afternoon.
