Al illegal road across Sinharaja
It is reported and seen that along Weddagala-Sinharaja road on huge "Hora' trees there are certain special marks and numbers have been written on them. The neighbouring villages are wondering as to who had written them and for what purpose. This matter has caused the villages to panic.
These huge "Hora' trees are towards the main entrance to the Sinharaja forest within the first
kilometre and more precisely about 500 yards from the entrance to the forest. This has made the villages and the authorities of environmental organizers to suspect so give a hidden exercise. It is established view that the shade from these huge 'Hora' trees give a tremendous soothing feeling to tourists and villages who walk across between these trees. The authorities of the Ceylon Electricity Board too had laid tremendous concern to this fact and when the power lines were laid they too had not harmed these trees in whatever manner.
The forest officer of Kalawana Lakshman Ratnaweera had added that in the event the trees need to be cut approval from his office is needed.Until now he had said that a request has not been made to them.
The development activities of the Sinharaja forest have now begun.According to the forest officer no requests have been received at his office for the felling of trees. He had added that even if p
permission is sought approval would not be given.
However the reason for the numbers and special marks that have been distinctly seen remains still a mystery to villages as to what purpose and who had done it.
