Mental condition after Thevarapperuma's son's death is not good. Will be produced before a doctor - Akila Viraj

Mental condition after Thevarapperuma's son's death is not good. Will be produced before a doctor - Akila Viraj

Deputy Minister Palitha Thevarapperuma who is involved in a fast unto death protest saying that the problem of several children not being admitted to schools is a case of injustice while it has been identified by Minister of Education Akila Viraj as a result of a behaviour related to a
mentally sick condition.

The Deputy Minister who has mediated in an issue of not granting admission to children of Meegahatenna Primary School has made it a serious issue and was even involved in a dispute a few days before this over a hotel in Demata, Galle.

The principal who held a media discussion yesterday relating to children of Mirigama said that when there are other schools in proximity for those children and that after marks were given properly those children had secured low marks and thus no injustice has been done. Already a story is going around the UNP that it is not fit enough for a Deputy Minister to behave by creating headdlines in the newspapers saying that he would abandon Yahapalanaya if children are not given schools. Minister Akila Viraj has mentioned this at a question posed to him by Neth Radio Channel in this connection.

"We have come to understand that after his child's death that he has faced a minor mental condition. So what we have to say is that we would be taking action in the future in that connection as a Party. We also hope to inform the Speaker too about it and to produce him before a doctor for some treatment".

Lushan of Panadura who blasted robbers with a baseball batand chased them away

The media in England are talking about a Sri Lankan student who heroic enough to prevent a robbery that was to take place in a shop there by hammering the culprits with a baseball bat and chasing them away when they were armed with knives in their hands.

28 year old Lushan Weerasooriya this student who is following his Bachelor Degree at Salford University in Britain had been on duty at a wine and customer goods shop in the capacity of a cashier on a part-time job. When he had commenced his shift around
7 in the evening 2 persons who had come there had threatened him demanding cash in the drawer. At that moment what they had said was that the condition of their mother who was suffering from cancer had aggravated and that they needed money to attend to those expenses. When Lushan told these two individuals who had been highly intoxicated with liquor and had possessed an unnatural look on them that he is not in a position to accede to their request, they had then taken knives into their hands and tried to attack him. At that moment he had got hold of a baseball bat which he had hidden for his safety close to his cashier seat and had begun dealing blows on the robbers continuously and brought them under control which finally resulted in the robbers fleeing from the spot.

Even before 48 hours elapsed, the British Police were able to get the two robbers who tried the robbery into their custody after carrying out a survey on the CCTV camera tapes. It was revealed that it was two brothers aged 37 and 32 who had come for this robbery and the police were able to find that they were addicted to cocaine in a serious manner and had been trying to find a way of buying the said drugs. Whatever it is, their mother has in fact been a cancer patient and it was revealed that at the time her two sons were nabbed by the police she had breathed her last. The suspects who were subsequently produced before courts were later sentenced to 4 years and 4 months imprisonment.

Lushan who stifled the robbery was a youth who had gone to England in the year 2014 to sit for his post-graduate Degree and was a resident of Panadura. He is a son of a police officer in this country, it is reported. Lushan has explained that he had assaulted the robbers without thinking twice and that he had not been confronted with an experience such as this before. Whatever it is his shop owner had been thankful to him for his heroic act and had remarked that self-defence was something of priority on that occasion and that if only he had palmed over the money asked for, Lushan would not have to worry about the situation. Rumour that Lasith Malinga is to step into politics

Cricketer Lasith Malinga created some uproar recently because of the story related to the IPL Tournament and his knee ailment and now a story is brewing around that he is trying to come into politics for the reason that he has visited a certain politico; which is a remote incident.

Actually it is to the house of Ranjan Ramanayaka , a Deputy Minister of the UNP that he had in fact
visited. He had even posed for some photos there. What he spoke about there of course has still not been revealed. Malinga records first position as the bowler in the 20 - 20 Tournament right now; but if he is not in a position to remain in the game of cricket and resigns due to his physical ailment he would perhaps choose politics as his option -- as seen from the clue noted from this meeting.

How Emigration - Immigration officer browsers Facebook from phone amidst duties! (video)

Emigration and Immigration officers yesterday engaged in a strike protesting against the installation of a new CCTV system at the Katunayaka Airport terminal. The strikers had not provided a proper answer to the reason concerning their action while what associations come out with is the  irrational argument that CCTVs are being installed in that section only when there are so many places which
needs such installation.

Published here is an occasion where an officer is observed on browsing the Facebook from his mobile phone during the time he is attending to his duties of checking passports. This may well be one reason for protesting against CCTVs. That video, from below

Story of Emigration and Immigration officers who opposed CCTVs being installed

Story of Emigration and Immigration officers who opposed CCTVs being installed

Emigration and Immigrations officers refused to carry out their duties of attending to passengers for a period of one hour yesterday (28) protesting against installing CCTV systems at Katunayaka
Airport Terminal buildings.

This protest which was carried on from 11.45 a.m. to 12.45 p.m. resulted in a delay of 15 minutes of 4 Sri Lankan flights and 8 other flights. The protest had erupted at the time a CCTV system was to be installed covering the entire airport, under instructions of the President. The Secretary of Emigration and Immigration Officers' Association Mr. Y.A.S.D. Yapa stated that this protest has been voiced on the occasion on the issue as to why when there are so many places which are not covered in the system now in operation, a CCTV system is to be installed only at the immigration section. However under the promise that this decision would be considered later, the strike was called off.

By now, criticisms have been aimed at this incident by comparing it to the Sinhala proverb which implies that 'the flowering part of the banana tree jumps over the fence before the thief'. The criticism points out that a protest is launched by none other than shareholders or participants of racketeers who are against the activity of providing safety to the airport the latter of which is a hub where racketeers bring in unwanted stuff to the country.

As reported, the two CCTV systems in operation currently at the airport are not operating in a manner that it has therefore created an obstacle for surveillance. Once the new system is fixed, all systems would be focused and directed to one particular unit and it is anticipated that a separate team would be engaged in the surveillance. Whatever it is, because of yesterday's protest the installing activities of the CCTV system has been temporarily suspended and the decision to be arrived at is expected to be taken after all parties are summoned under the leadership of the Secretary of Defense.

When questioned about the obstacle which sprang up when a progressive action such as this was to be launched, the Controller of Emigration and Immigration, General Ranasingha responded saying that there was no strike that occured there. Also that other than a discussion which took place because a renovation was fixed to be done last morning without prior notice at the section separated for the emigration and immigration officers, there was no protest at all for installing cameras there.

Speculation that Nandalal to be appointed to the main chair at Central Bank

Speculation that Nandalal  to be appointed to the main chair at Central Bank

It is not Eran but Nandalal tipped to sit on main chair

After the term of the Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka Arjun Mahendran expires at the end of the month there had erupted talks as to who would
succeed him.

There is speculation that the deputy governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, Nandalal Weersinghe is the most likely successor. This has been speculated among the sources close to the President Maithripala Sirisena.

Although the deputy minister Eran Wickremaratne was tipped to succeed earlier he had himself added that it is not suitable for a politician to accept such a post, although Prime Minister Ranil Wickreasinghe has had in this in mind.

In this context President Maithripala Sirisena wishes to appoint the person in line at the Central Bank of Sri Lanka itself which is the most prudent thing to do.
Accordingly those in line for contention are Professor Nandalal Weerasinghe, Professor Lalith Samaraweera and Dinesh Weerakkody. Among them the most eligible is Professor Nandalal Weerasinghe it is learnt.

Nandalal Weerasinghe has had twenty five years experience at the Central Bank of Sri Lanka and has had the opportunity of representing Sri Lanka as a economic specialist in research and is the Sri Lankan representative as an executive at World Bank.

Pavithra who sticking her finger at the lawyer severely warned by courts

MP Pavithra Wanniaarachchi had been subjected to a severe warning by Colombo Additional Magistrate Mrs. Aruni Attygala. The reason for this was that when the MP was present in courts in connection with a legal case when the attention was in focus over the case she had been sticking her finger at her attorneys-at-law unnecessarily and giving them
instructions.

At a time when a case is being heard and when the magistrate is watching, the prevalence of a disciplined environment is required for the verdict of the case to be delivered and no opportunity is given for people to walk about, attend to telephone calls, engage in conversation or to drink water. In case anybody was seen behaving in such an obstructive way the judge is permitted to take disciplinary action against the person concerned.

MP Pavithra Wanniaarachchi being a lawyer herself while fully aware of these matters had committed this offence. At the moment the defense lawyer was in the process of bringing forward the necessary points regarding a court case pertaining to her, MP and attorney-at-law of the United People's Freedom Alliance who was sticking her finger at one of her lawyers was thus strictly warned last morning by Colombo Additional Magistrate Mrs. Aruni Attygala.

The legal case in question relating to her was that that she had leased out a luxury house situated in Subhuthipura area in Battaramulla which had lacked required facilities and over that issue she had tried to hand over the house prior to the stipulated date at which instance the owner of the said house had cheated her by handing her a dishonoured cheque. Thus a case had been filed against him accusing him of cheating her for a sum of Rs. 20 lakhs.

The Additional Magistrate who observed MP Mrs. Pavithra Wanniaarachchi who arrived in courts yesterday with her attorneys-at-law when the case was called being engaged in giving advice to a junior attorney-at-law by sticking her finger at his body and even further calling him to a corner of the courts and giving him instructions had this to say: "parties connected to the case are expected to give instructions to their lawyers not when court proceedings are in progress, but outside courts. Courts cannot permit anybody to stick his or her finger at a lawyer and give instructions. The courts cannot devote any speciality in the case of this particular legal case. The complainant is an attorney-at-law. As such she should know how to behave in courts more than anyone else".

Thevarapperuma's story of the week : stamping down filthy hotels

Thevarapperuma's story of the week : stamping down filthy hotels

Palitha Thevarapperuma of this government appears to have replaced the position of creating news by Mervin Silva of the past regime. Whatever it is his methodology is different. The conflict he entered into with an employee of a hotel in Dewata area, Galle Electorate when Deputy Minister
Palitha Thevarapperuma happened to be present at a promotional programme of UNP members at Galle Electoral Division day-before-yesterday (26) took place in the following manner.

On the occasion Deputy Minister Palitha stepped into that hotel to have his breakfast that morning he had used harsh words on the waiter asking him to bring him that food and the waiter had responded saying, "Don't speak like that". The hotel employee had thus explained it as the root cause for the conflict. Later the Deputy Minister is supposed to have got hold of him by the neck and had assaulted him. In the process, another person who came to the hotel too had got involved in this incident and had subsequently fallen down. How this conflict took place is recorded in CCTV cameras of the hotel.

Initially the hotel employee had not identified that it was a Deputy Minister. After this incident in the morning another incident had followed. The Deputy Minister had come to this same hotel the same day around 4 in the evening in the company of the Health Officer of Galle and a group of Public Health Officers, explaining matters of uncleanliness of the hotel.

This is how the Deputy Minister Palitha Thevarapperuma spoke about the incident concerned: "I didn't assault anybody. I pointed out about the uncleanliness of the hotel. It is to cover up that -- this story is being brought forward. We went to have breakfast at about 6.45 in the morning. While having breakfast it was noticed that a person who came to the hotel slipped and fell. That person was from Kegalle area. It was that he knocked against the waiter and fell down. I then said, "you'll must work with some attention ... help him get up". Subsequently I took him towards the tap. "Couldn't go near the kitchen ... so unclean! There were heaps of garbage near the cooking place. It was a kind of hell. Toilet pits were overflowing in the rear section. After that I got connected to the Health Officer over the phone and spoke to him about this".

The manner in which the Deputy Minister posed questions against the hotel has been looked down upon by Hotel Owners' Society. The following video has been recorded in a Facebook Page of Deputy Minister Thevarapperuma.

Public hoots and sends away Dayasiri who came for Mahinda's meeting

Public hoots and sends away Dayasiri who came for Mahinda's meeting

A religious festival was held day-before-yesterday (26) in Pengodagedera, Panduwasnuwara under the leadership of
Kurunegala District MP Mahinda Rajapaksa and because Minister Dayasiri Jayasekera stepped on the stage he had to experience a treatment of hooting from the public.

This event was organised for the occasion of declaring open the bodhi of the vihara. MPs Johnston Fernando and Salinda Dissanayaka were seated there and when Mahinda was about to get on stage amidst activities of the event, it was seen Minister Dayasiri approaching the flight of steps on the other side of the stage. Feeling as there was nothing wrong he had seated himself next to Johnston. During this process there was some murmuring going on among the crowd present. The chief incumbent commenced his speech and said that this day was a very happy day for him and that most members of the committee contributed in erecting the bodhi but that there were two or three who who wanted to pull the leg as well. With that comment a person who was present on the occasion butted in saying, "there he is on the stage!" Just then hooting was heard from the crowd which incidentally was targeted at none other than Mr. Dayasiri Jayasekera.

Mahinda on that occasion tried this best to calm down the situation by standing up from his seat. At that moment Dayasiri had got up from his seat and had then seated himself near Mahinda Rajapaksa. Just then another shout was heard saying, "don't take him near!" As soon as the chief incumbent's speech was over, Dayasiri had got up from his seat and prepared to go off when the hooting had once again commenced. When Minister had got down from the stage and had started walking away, hooting was heard here and there and in the process a youth who was present there had posed a question "is the spine straight?" for Minister Dayasiri who was outside the iron railing covering in the festival premises. Dayasiri had then approached the youth and asked "What did you say yakko?" and had tried to get involved in an argument when another set of youth had come to the assistance of the young man and had asked the very same question from Dayasiri. The Minister's security who arrived on the scene had subsequently made the Minister get into the jeep and set off preventing the conflict going beyond bounds.
