A 19 year old girl had put her wedding ring to a 38 year old person who was supposed to be a resident of Polgahawela and was employed at a higher education institute in Ratmalana as a result of a proposal brought to the couple. The marriage had taken place about 10 months ago and the girl was hailing from Kegalle and because of a beating she had faced as a consequence of conflicts that arose in their family life and having received injuries had approached

The issue she had incidentally was the necessity she had to save her husband who was involved in misconduct. At the time when the girl was given in marriage the girl's parents were highly pleased because the girl's would-be partner was having a well-to-do job; but had failed to inquire any further about him. The girl's kith-and-kin were even more elated because of the fact that the bridegroom had escorted the bride to a house given by the establishment which he was attached to.

Though the couple were living there happily for a number of months, the girl was able to notice some change later in her husband. In short, it had been his custom to come home rather late saying that he was burdened with work after the normal hours assigned to him and this however kindled some suspicion in the girl. But the husband had been clever enough to cover up the true reason by bringing out various other reasons. In the process, as months passed by his change had become even more conspicuous. The husband had then made it a habit of coming home after bouts of liquor and on one occasion he had taken a little too much of the dose, so to say. On that day he had got involved in an exchange of words with his beloved and by a slip of the tongue he had said something related to a massage clinic that he was to frequent daily in Ratmalana. The cat being out of the bag, the wife the following day itself had visited the the spot mentioned; only to realise that it was a house of ill-fame. This 19 year old inexperienced girl had then approached the person running the spot and had spoken out her sorrows pleading that if at all her husband was to sight that place, to chase him away.

After cautioning her husband not to patronise the said massage clinic daily the argument had taken a worse turn and the number of times she had taken a beating from him too increased. On an argument that took place last 20th the husband had assaulted his 19 year old wife in a serious manner and after her parents in Kegalle were notified, members of her house has had the girl admitted to Kegalle General Hospital. The injured girl after this incident had told hospital police that she has had enough of her marriage.
