Army Intelligence officer who committed suicide claiming responsibility for Lasantha's killing had been 100 kilometers away.
The deputy minister of Justice Ajith P Perera has confirmed that that the retired army intelligence officer sergeant major Jayamanne who had committed suicide claiming that he was responsible for the killing of Sunday Leader editor Lasantha Wickrematunga in untrue as on the day of the killing he
had been found 100 kilometer away from Bakery junction Attidiya and hence his information is dubious. This information had been conveyed by deputy Minister Ajith P Perrera at a meeting in Bandaragama area had this to say:
"This is an abnormal story.People may die owing to hurting feelings.Would die before been arrested. But to write a letter like this and to commit suicide is very suspicious saying it was self and not he who committed the murder.Really it is not certain when he hung himself or he was killed and hung like that.
However police investigations have revealed that Lasantha Wickematunga was killed near the bakery junction in Attidiya, Dehiwala in the Colombo district. The deceased army sergeant major Jayamanne had at his dwelling in his village on that 100 kilometers away. This could be confirmed via his telephone calls when perused. Now we feel this is very suspicious. It appears that today to cover up for a murder more murders are committed .This is to mislead the people."
