Aava gang comprises of about 62 members, out of them 38 arrested - Sagala
The minister of law and order Sagala Ratnayake had added that 38 members of the Aava gang out of 62 in the gang have been arrested by now.There are also another 06 members on whom investigations are been carried out.On 30 members

It is reported that in the Aava gang there are eight who are said to be leaders.They are been searched.The initial leader has been imprisoned and the minister says new leaders are emerging.
The minister Sagala Ratnayake had answered this to a question raised by the leader of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake under standing order 23 (2).
In the year 2011 in the Inuwilhi Amman Kovil during a ceremony there had been a clash between two factions.During the clash one faction had together formed a group and attacked the opposite faction.This faction had later grouped together had involved in various activities in Jaffna and called them as 'Aava' group.This story was related by the minister Sagala Ratnayake to the house .Answering to the chief opposition whip Anura Kumara Dissanayake minister Sagala Ratnayake had confirmed that the group is not a terrorist group.
The members of this group have a lot of money it is reported.He believes that they receive money from their relatives living abroad.The members of this group possess modern motor cycles.One has brought a sword from south India or from Brazil.More swords have been designed and manufactured in work shops in the north.
Before minister Sagala Ratnayake answered state minister of defense Ruwan Wijewardena airing his views had added that Aava is a gang that had been in the north for sometime who hurt people by demanding bribes (kappan), a motor cycle gang.This is not a gang operated by the army.To operate them our army has no purpose.Out of the three arrested on person is an ex army employee a Tamil national.He is been interrogated.He is considered an army "deserter" and is not paid a pension.which were revealed on questioning.
