The Naval Commander not showing any respect towards the media identity card is a matter of grave concern, as indicated in the announcement issued by Sri Lanka Media Cameramen Association. It is further mentioned there that neglecting the media which reports all heroic deeds of the Navy is surprising. It is also stated that the mediaman Rohan who was a victim of the assault had been unaware that it was the Navy Commander who was his assailant.
Whatever it is, the Director General of the Government Information Department Dr. Ranga Kalansuriya said that the said mediaman had failed to pay attention to exercise the minimum steps of ethics during the environment of the conflict and also remaining there further by turning a deaf ear to the orders of the Navy Commander and that not obeying orders of the Navy is a mistake. What the Secretary of Defence Mr. Karunasena Hettiarachchi stated was that the manner in which the Commander of the Navy and the battalion of Navy officers had comported themselves cannot be found fault with and that they had told the 'media to move away from the place a little ... but the reporter didn't do so'. He finally said that he had told the police to conduct an inquiry in connection with the incident and to present him with a report. The video recorded by Derana Channel, from below
