Anusha and Lalith in hospital ... both suffering from acute Diabetes!
Both former President's Secretary Lalith Weeratunga and former Director General of Telecommunication Regulatory Commission, Anusha Pelpita who were subjected to rigorous imprisonment yesterday had simultaneously showed signs of Diabetes and as a consequence the doctor concerned has taken steps to direct
them to the prison hospital instead of rigorous imprisonment, within the space of a few hours.Both Weeratunga and Pelpita had warranted access to the dispensary there last evening itself before being admitted to Welikada Prison Hospital while remaining at Welikada Ward 'K'; but had got admitted to hospital under recommendations of a lady-doctor.
It was one Dr. Kannambi who had attended to duties in charge of the dispensary till 6 last evening. Though Dr. Mrs. Sandya has taken up duties from 6 in the evening and prison officers had instead of directing both Lalith - Anusha to those doctors, Dr. Mrs. Nirmali Thenuwara had been made to meet the two prisoners and she having found that their sugar level was at a high level it was necessary to treat them and has finally recommended that they be admitted to prison hospital as they are acute Diabetes patients.
This morning around 11 o'clock they had been admitted to prison hospital. Last evening the Joint Opposition led by Mahinda has had discussions with the Prime Minister about the imprisonment and this decision relating to the two of them was implemented a few hours after that.
