China has developed the world’s thinnest stainless steel sheet after running 711 trials in two years. This breakthrough attributes to Taiyuan Iron and Steel Group Co., LTD, a steel mill with a history of 84 years in north China’s Shanxi Province. The thickness of this kind of stainless steel sheet is 0.02 millimeters, or one-fourth of a sheet of A-4 paper. It is so thin that it can be torn by hands. Thin stainless steel sheet is applied in a wide range of fields, including aerospace, automotive, electronics and computers. To develop the steel sheet with such a thickness, the steel mill conducted 711 experiments to produce the best arrangement mode of the 20 rollers. At present, besides TISCO, there are only a few steel mills in Japan and Germany can produce stainless steel sheet of the same thickness. But only TISCO can produce thin stainless steel sheet with a width of 600mm.
