It was hearing court cases and punishing in our era, now it is reverse - Mahinda
The former President Mahinda Rajapaksa had quipped at the
Wariyapola Pennithawa Sri Wimala Buddhist centre the following:During our era we were used to file court cases and convict those proved guilty of offences. Now it is not so. They punish by way of remanding and then try to find justice via court cases. One good example was remanding of former Minister Johnston Fernando who was kept in remand for a number of weeks without framing charges and then bailed out by the same court which ordered him to be remanded. As a Lawyer he had said he would not endorse it.
