Mayor of the Colombo Municipal Council A.J.M. Muzammil claims that they extended their maximum contribution to the developments that were launched in Colombo in view of the Commonwealth Summit. Addressing a news conference in Colombo the Mayor pointed out that it was possible to successfully complete the work despite the false rumours spread by certain saboteurs.
The Colombo Mayor said that the hosting of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Colombo is a victory for the entire nation. Everyone thought that it would not be possible for the Government to handle the task and many had voiced their doubts. However, he said that it was possible to complete the scheduled work successfully through collective effort.
The Secretary to the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development enthusiastically supported this work. 250 members of the Civil Defence Force were allocated to the task when delays were experienced in completing the work. The Mayor added that this was a great encouragement to the organisers.
