UNICEF in Sri Lanka has expresses its concern for the children and families affected by Super Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines and calls on all Sri Lankans to show their solidarity with those who have suffered from the disaster.
The disaster has affected an estimated 9.8 million people, at least half of whom are children. The UNICEF is deeply concerned about the impact of the disaster on children’s health and well-being.
UNICEF Sri Lanka Representative, Una McCauley said they have joined hands with the rest of the world in emergency response efforts to the Philippines. She said the UNICEF wants to help all children everywhere.
UNICEF Sri Lanka Staff Association Vice-Chairperson, Shalini Fernando mentioned that they are also helping raise funds for the victims. She also invited all Sri Lankans to further contribute towards these efforts.
