The valiant soldiers eliminated the ruthless terrorism that plagued the country for thirty years and ushered in peace.

The bloodshed would have continued unabated had the security forces failed in their mission. The terrorists ambushed a group of soldiers in Gomarankadawala in Trincomalee killing six soldiers who were on foot patrol on 24th November 1990. On the same day the terrorists launched an attack using small arms in Thanthirimale in Anuradhapura killing 5 soldiers. The terrorists also strived to infiltrate the forward defence lines in Eleikadu in Jaffna. Although after several hours of battle the war heroes overcame the terrorists and consolidated their positions, it was at the expense of the lives of 46 of their members. On the same day 18 soldiers lost their lives in several clashes that took place in Palali in Jaffna, Kent Farm in Welioya and Poonaryn areas. Two civilians who were engaged in farming in Eravur were killed by the LTTE pistol gang on 24th November 2004 within their farm lands. A clash took place between the security forces and the terrorists in Kalmadu, Vavunia on 24th November 2006. Three soldiers lost their lives. On 24th November 2007 two soldiers who were on duty in Kaludavali area lost their lives in a Claymore explosion. Three war heroes lost their lives on 24th November 2008 when the terrorists hurled hand grenades on their bunkers in the forward defence line Kilali. A total number of 101 lives including that of 5 civilians and 96 war heroes were lost on this day when terrorism was put an end to on 18th May 2009. Terrorism could be eliminated due to the correct decisions made by President Mahinda Rajapaksa as the Commander in Chief of the Security Forces and the members of the security forces who risked their lives. Our soldiers taught a lesson to the world by defeating the LTE which was described as the most dangerous terrorist movement in the world. The government has achieved huge victories including the development work carried out in the former war zone within 4 years after elimination of terrorism. It is ironic that Britain which murdered 13 innocent people in cold blood in 1972 and took 40 years to release a report in this connection, calls for an investigation report from Sri Lanka in a short period of 4 years. The impartial people question as to why the human rights organizations do not question about the destructive acts of the terrorists.
