A special Police team has been deployed to probe the murder of the Chairman of the Delft Pradeshiya Sabha.
Police Media Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said that the team which has already arrived in the Punkudathivu area has begun investigations.
The Police Media Spokesman said that the Chairman of the Delft Pradeshiya Sabha had been murdered on Tuesday and his body was recovered near his house at Punkudathivu. Thereafter the Kayts Police commenced inquiries. The Magisterial inquiry and the post mortem were conducted yesterday. The Judicial Medical Officer of the Jaffna Hospital who conducted the autopsy said that a shot had been fired on his head.
Accordingly inquiries have been started considering it as a killing. It is revealed that the victim was an EPDP member. SSP Ajith Rohana said that the Inspector General of Police had ordered the CID to conduct an investigation. A team of CID sleuths left for the area today. They will be proceeding with the inquiries. It should be mentioned that the people of Kayts were leading peaceful lives and the incident is a threat to the peaceful environment prevailing in the area. As such the perpetrators will not be permitted to escape. The Police Media Spokesman said they will soon be disclosing the suspects of this murder case.
