Indian actor Jayapalan who had issued statements in the North and East spreading hatred among communities, violating visa regulations has been arrested. Police Media Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said that stern legal action will be initiated against Jeyapalan who had been apprehended in Mankulam, for transgressing the Immigration and Emigration Act.
The Police Media Spokesman said that he was arrested for violating visa conditions. He was born in Sri Lanka and is currently living in Norway. He had arrived in Sri Lanka on a tourist visa. Holding several meetings in Jaffna he had made statements leading to disunity among communities. He had made statements particularly to provoke the Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim communities.
SSP Ajith Rohana pointed out that he had referred to the importance of establishing a separate state in Sri Lanka merging the North and the East. He cannot issue statements in Sri Lanka or any other unitary country calling for a division. Engaging in such activities after entering the country on a tourist visa is the flagrant violation the Sri Lanka’s Immigration and Emigration Act.
The Police Media Spokesman added that the Terrorist Investigation Division and Immigration and Emigration officials are conducting investigations.
