Stern action is to be initiated against United People’s Freedom Alliance members who contributed to defeating budgets of Councils ruled by the Alliance.
The Freedom Alliance emphasized that such members would be evicted from the Party.
The United People’s Freedom Alliance said that measures have been taken to apprise constituent parties of the Alliance with regard to the budget defeats suffered by Local Authorities ruled by the Freedom Alliance. A member who had supported the budget is to be nominated as the next Chairman of the Local Councils in which the budgets had been defeated on two occasions.
The names of members who voted for the defeat of the budgets would be submitted to the General Secretary of the constituent parties concerned and they would be dismissed from the party on the disciplinary action initiated by the concerned parties. These details are provided in a statement issued and signed by Freedom Alliance General Secretary Susil Premajayantha.
The statement has mentioned that a decision has not been taken to appoint as Chairman, the Vice Chairman of the Local Council in which the budgets had been defeated. The defeat of the budgets is not a defeat for the Freedom Alliance and the party’s strength does not wane as a result. The Freedom Alliance said that several opposition members of the many Local Bodies had supported the Alliance in approving the budget.
