A large scale kasippu den has been raided while a racket of transporting marijuana has been also uncovered.
The Mirigama Police successfully detected a large scale den which was brewing illicit liquor utilizing modern machinery. The operation has been carried out in a two storeyed house situated near the Bothale Pahalagama bus route in Mirigama. The Police said they were able to apprehend three suspects. The owner had obtained a monthly rental of 25,000 rupees. The Police also seized a van modified with special tanks for the transport of kasippu. It has been found that an unidentified chemical and fertilizer had been used for the production of this illicit liquor. Several packets of fertilizer had also been recovered from the location.
In the meantime the Moneragala Police have succeeded in uncovering a racket of transporting marijuana from Wellawaya under the guise of transporting sand. 84 kilograms of marijuana were recovered from a tipper that was plying from Wellawaya towards Ampara. Two suspects were nabbed while the Moneragala Police are conducting further inquiries.
