The new building of the Colombo Branch of the Open University of Sri Lanka has been opened.
The opening of the new building took place this morning under the patronage of Minister S.B. Dissanayake. The expenditure incurred on the building is 63 million rupees. It is equipped with modern facilities including15 lecture halls. An automated Library System was also launched.
Expressing views on the occasion, Minister S.B. Dissanayake said that the difference between the Open University and other Universities is that the Open University is an institution which imparts degrees and diplomas to professionals. Deputy Minister Nandimithra Ekanayake, Chairman of the University Grants Commission Kshanika Hirimburegama and Chancellor of the Open University Sam S. Wijesinghe were among those present on the occasion.
