Minister Bandula Gunawardena has said that the Grade Five Scholarship Examination will be abolished from the year 2016. He said that only a justifiable evaluation will be made. The Education Minister made some clarifications in this respect at a news briefing held at Education Ministry.
The Education Minister announced that there will be no Grade Five Scholarship Examination from the year 2016 as there is no need to hold this examination. Instead the National Education Commission has said that based on the age of the children their performances within school will be justifiably evaluated in lower grade classes on subjects such as mathematics, environment and general knowledge through examinations.
As such he emphasized that a scholarship examination will not be held from 2016 as it exerts pressure on the children depriving their childhood days and also entails an additional expenditure for parents.
