Pakistani Speaker begins visit to Sri Lanka

The Speaker of Pakistan arrives in the island further strengthening parliamentary ties between the two countries.


Speaker of the Pakistani Parliament Sardar Ayaz Sadiq reached the Katunayake International Airport this afternoon. He was warmly greeted at the Airport by Deputy Speaker Chandima Weerakkody. These he signed the Guests Book at the Airport. Expressing views to the media, the Pakistani Speaker said that the existing relations between Sri Lanka and Pakistan will further strengthen in the future.

Mr. Sadiq said he is happy to visit Sri Lanka. The relations between Sri Lanka and Pakistan date back to a long period. Pakistan intends to further strengthen these ties. A special programme is in place in this respect. He said he planned to meet Sri Lankan Parliamentarians during this visit. He also said that he planned to view the budget debate in Parliament tomorrow.

During his stay in the island Mr. Sardar Ayaz Sadiq is scheduled to meet many Parliamentarians and several Senior Government Officials. The aim of his visit is to further firm up social and political ties between Sri Lanka and Pakistan.

Expressing views to ITN Deputy Speaker Chandima Weerakkody said that everyone is aware of the fact that Pakistan has highly appreciated the operations mooted by Sri Lanka to route terrorism. They are happy about the arrival of such a friend in the island. He will be meting the President, the Speaker and Parliamentarians tomorrow. It will be an opportunity of further strengthening the ties between the two countries.
