The President has inaugurated Sethsuva Medura the safe food outlet.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa inaugurated the Sethsuva Medura this morning set up with a view to provide nutritious food devoid of toxins. The Sethsuva Medura is being operated under the guidance of the Chief Incumbent of the Sambodhi Vihare Ven. Daranagama Kusaladhamma Thera and the observation of the GMOA. After the inauguration the President visited the stalls and exchanged views with the sales personnel. Expressing his views the President stated that while the country is being built after ending a 30 year war the need of the hour is to provide indigenous foods devoid of toxins. The President called on the farming community to be dedicated to this noble undertaking. The President stated that it is important to introduce an indigenous meal to the people. He called on the farmers to refrain from using chemical fertilizers.
The Sethsuva Medura will remain open on all Sundays at the Sri Sambodhi Vihare in Colombo 7 providing indigenous foods free of toxins. A clinic is also being held on non communicable diseases. The President launched a website that raises awareness on food nutrition. He handed over souvenirs to Chef Publis Silva for promoting local recipes and Baladuruge Chandrasiri for his contribution to promote tourism through arts. A list of proposals prepared by the GMOA for the creation of a healthy society was handed over to the President. The President also observed the main control room of the Buddhist Channel. Ministry officials including the Secretary to the Health Ministry Dr. Nihal Jayatillake, the Commanders of the security forces and the IGP participated in the occasion.
